IND vs BAN: Shakib Al Hasan Denies Taking Sole Responsibility For Team's Performance

Interim Bangladesh skipper, Shakib Al Hasan opened up on their recent performance in the Asia Cup 2023 and said that the squad failed to contribute as a team for which they could not make it into the final of the tournament. He further added that not all responsibility lies on his shoulders.

While speaking at the press conference, Shakib Al Hasan hit out at the Bangladesh squad and said that everyone had their own responsibility and not everything was on his shoulder.

However, Shakib Al Hasan is hopeful that the team will work to be a better squad and contribute to clinching wins in the upcoming matches. Shakib feels that some players know that they haven’t performed in the Continental tournament and they are trying hard to work on them.

“Look, the responsibility does not lie on my shoulders, because everyone has some kind of responsibility. I am sure everyone will work to fulfill his part and if everyone can contribute, only then we have a good chance to do well, and if we can add all the individual performances together, only at that point can we do well. They haven’t contributed that much and they know that. They are trying to do that,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

The interim skipper is hopeful to win against India in the last match of the Asia Cup 2023 and thinks that it will be helpful for the Bangladesh side before they return to their country.

Shakib reckoned that Bangladesh have not batted well in the tournament and is confident that the team will fight back in the upcoming series.

“Yes, there are things to gain. If we can win the last match before returning to the country, it would be a good thing. We don’t want anything else from the match, just the win will do. I don’t know (whether the Asia Cup performance will affect us or not). Yes, it’s disappointing that we haven’t batted as well as we would have liked but we may be able to come back in the next series,” he added.

Bangladesh will play against India in the sixth Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Friday (September 15th).
