Indian batter Virat Kohli achieved a massive feat in the game of cricket. He surpassed Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the fourth leading run-getter in the history of international cricket.

Virat Kohli achieved the feat in the ongoing match 17 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The batter has steadied the innings after openers Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (53) were back in the hut.

Virat Kohli has timed the ball to perfection and is making sure that his team stays in the match. The right-hander has looked exceptional to the eyes and smashed his third half-century of the ICC World Cup 2023, having scored earlier against Australia and Afghanistan.

Coming into the bat, Virat Kohli was 35 runs away from becoming the fourth leading run-getter in the ODIs. With the way he’s batting, he looked all set for a big total and might even end up getting a hundred. The chase master has aced another chase.

Kohli now only has Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting ahead of him in the leading run-getter list in international cricket. With the way he has batted of late, it’s fair to say that he can become the leading run-getter in the tournament.

Coming to the match, India restricted Bangladesh to a total of 256 runs. Litton Das (66) and Tanzid Hasan (51) were the top run scorers for the team. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were the pick of the bowlers as they bagged two wickets each. In the chase, India were off the flying start as Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (53) batted aggressively and provided a great platform for the start. The onus is now on Kohli and KL Rahul to take India home.
