IND vs BAN: Watch - Brain-fade Moment For Tilak Varma As He Gets Castled After Miscalculated Leave On ODI Debut

The 20-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed batter Tilak Varma had a brain-fade moment on his ODI debut as Tanzim Hasan Sakib rattled his stumps after the batter’s miscalculated leave in the Asia Cup 2023 on Friday, September 15.

The 6th match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team is currently underway at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Tilak Varma made his ODI debut against Bangladesh as India made as many as five changes to their playing XI in the dead rubber encounter. He received his ODI cap from his skipper Rohit Sharma, with whom he also plays at the Mumbai Indians (MI).

The expectations from the youngster were very high as he was slotted in India’s 17-man Asia Cup squad based on his potential. The 20-year-old just played 7 T20Is before his ODI debut and scored 174 runs at an average of 34.80 and a strike rate of 138.09.

Tilak Varma batted at Virat Kohli’s No.3 position in the playing XI and was able to score just 5 runs off 9 balls, with one four, before walking back to the hut following a bizarre dismissal.

He was cleaned up by Tanzim Hasan Sakib on the fourth ball of the 3rd over. The pacer bowled a length delivery on off-stump and Tilak Varma lifted his arms with a thought that the ball would swing away just like the previous delivery.

However, that didn’t happen and the ball shaped in nicely to crash into the stumps. Tilak Varma was absolutely stunned after his stumps were shattered and he had a puzzled look on his face.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma informed that they have made as many as five changes to the playing XI in order to give some game time to other players in the 17-man squad.

Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah were rested and they were replaced by Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, and Prasidh Krishna.
