Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul received the Best Fielder Medal for his outstanding efforts behind the stumps during the match against Pakistan in the 2023 World Cup. India defeated their archrivals by seven wickets in the 12th match of the ongoing World Cup.
The Rohit Sharma-led team got off to an impressive start in their World Cup campaign by registering three consecutive victories. The Men in Blue dominated the Pakistan team in all three departments at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14.
KL Rahul Was Fantastic – Fielding Coach T Dilip
In a video shared by the Indian Cricket Team on their official Instagram account, KL Rahul was presented with the Best Fielder award by Shardul Thakur, the previous winner, in a light-hearted ceremony, with the entire dressing room applauding in unison.
Team Indian fielding coach T Dilip praised KL Rahul‘s wicketkeeping skills, emphasizing that wicketkeeping is often an overlooked skill. Dilip further mentioned the importance of wicketkeepers collecting throws and taking catches on the leg side.
“One skill generally which really gets ignored, I think is wicketkeeping. We expect to do the job, but some of the things we spoke about coming to stumps to collect that throws. Doing the leg side stump and catches. I think overall KL was fantastic. Well done,” Dilip said.

KL Rahul made an impressive diving catch to his left, dismissing Pakistan’s opener Imam-ul-Haq off Hardik Pandya’s delivery. The 31-year-old also showcased his skills behind the stumps, making several crucial saves to prevent extra runs for the team during the match.

Dilip gave a special mention to Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer for their exceptional fielding efforts in the high-stakes match. He described Ravindra Jadeja as the world’s best fielder at the moment, highlighting his speed and accuracy.
“One thing special to see is that the world’s best fielder is back doing what is renowned to be the best. Good to see Ravindra Jadeja doing the speed and accuracy and getting there.”
“Looking at the way we are progressing over a period, i think one player he is really coming up and getting to his best, what we know is Shreyas Iyer. I think it’s top class effort today.”
