India National Cricket Team fielding coach T Dilip provided major updates about India's competitive fielding drill ahead of the commencement of the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

India and Bangladesh are scheduled to play the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, from September 19 to 23, and the players are leaving no stones unturned in preparation for the start of the big Test season.

The team led by Rohit Sharma has already had a few practice sessions and all the players were seen grinding hard in the hot and humid conditions in Chennai.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on their official X handle where T Dilip revealed the details of India's fielding session. T Dilip stated that Team India were split in two halves during the catching competition drill and the Virat Kohli-led side emerged as the winner.

"Today's whole session's idea was to get everyone together as a team drill. We have two segments to it, first segment was the competition drill, taking into consideration the humidity at Chennai, we made sure that the volume is less, but the intensity is taken care of. So we split it into two groups and had some little competition among catching, and the less number of errors is the team which won, and today it was Virat's team which has won," Dilip stated.

Overall, I would say it was a fantastic session - T Dilip

Speaking further in the video, T Dilip asserted that the bowlers and all-rounder were engaged in intense outfield and infield catching along with attacking ground fielding while batters practiced slip catching. He elaborated:

"And later on we split two batches, the bowlers and all-rounders split into two stations where outfield and infield catching were taken care of, along with attacking ground fielding. And the second group, which is the batter's group, which had slip cordon, standard slip cordon catching, and also short-legged silly point with some reflexes were taken care of."

He signed off by saying that the players had a fantastic session in the hot conditions and kept intensity high throughout all the drills. T Dilip stated:

"Overall, I would say it was a fantastic session, considering the conditions, especially in the hot sun, got used to it. But one great part of this team was, irrespective of the conditions and weather, throughout all three stations the intensity was top notch."

Notably, T. Dilip was the only member of the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff that was retained as fielding coach during the transition to Gautam Gambhir's tenure as head coach. His work has been widely appreciated for improving India's fielding standards and introducing the fielding medal ceremony, which keeps players motivated.

Meanwhile, India will be playing Test cricket for the first time since the series against England earlier in the year while Bangladesh will be entering the series on the back of a historic Test series win over Shan Masood-led side in Pakistan.
