The England all-rounder Ben Stokes who is on an indefinite break has lauded England test skipper Joe Root for playing superlative knock-in challenging conditions. Coming into the test, a lot was spoken about Joe Root’s recent struggles but he proved everyone wrong by playing two innings that might be very important in the context of the Nottingham Test.

Root’s 64 in the first innings helped England from a major deficit and his century in the second innings had so much of a fight for his side as the skipper. He finished with 109 in 172 balls with 14 fours and played a lot of shots that were pleasing to the eyes. He has taken England to a respectable score which can be defended in the 4th innings if they bowl well.

India 157 Away From Taking A Lead In The Series

India will have nine wickets in the hand on the final day and they still need 157 runs to win the first Test. Root’s century propelled England to a lead of 209 runs and England has already taken the wicket of the top scorer in the first innings, Kl Rahul which could be the match-defining moment. The Indian middle order of Pujara, Kohli, and Rahane hasn’t made enough contributions recently and this will be the best time to change that.

England still has an outside chance to win the test, if they manage to take the 9 wickets as soon as possible.
