Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers praised Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his leadership skills during the ICC World Cup 2023. AB de Villiers expressed optimism that Rohit could end the Men in Blue’s ICC trophy drought in the ongoing tournament.

The Rohit Sharma-led team is the only unbeaten side in the World Cup. The Indian cricket team tops the 10-team points table, having achieved five consecutive victories in the tournament. They’ve accumulated 10 points with an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.353.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers commended Rohit Sharma for translating his success with the Mumbai Indians into the national team.

“He’s been fantastic for the Mumbai Indians as Captain and he’s starting to show that in Indian colors now which is promising for future in the near term for this world cup to lift that trophy,” said De Villiers, as quoted by the Cricket Times.

The 36-year-old has been in brilliant form in the World Cup, scoring 311 runs in five innings at an impressive 62.20 with a strike rate of 133.48. He is the second-leading run-getter for India in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma Reminds Me Of A Bit Of Matthew Hayden – AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers compared Rohit to Matthew Hayden, highlighting his ability to occupy the crease and play aggressive cricket. He emphasized that Rohit’s performance has been fantastic in the World Cup, providing India with both a great and quick start.

“He demands respect from the bowlers. He reminds me a bit of Matthew Hayden back in the day really just occupying the crease and hitting the ball hard and far and high,” De Villiers added.

“Very intimidating I would say for all teams for the rest of this World Cup. Rohit really giving India a great start and not only a great start a quick start. He’s been fantastic in this world cup.”

Rohit Sharma will be next seen in action when India takes on England in their next match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. The home team will be hoping to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming clash.
