India opener Shubman Gill has hailed Ben Stokes’ match-winning abilities. The England allrounder is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders and match-winners in the history of the game.

He has proved himself in all the formats of the game and has propelled England to numerous famous wins singlehandedly. The New Zealand-born allrounder was the highest scorer in the final of the last ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup, helping England win both titles. His performance in Tests has been equally remarkable.

He is currently in India for the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and will be looking to inspire his country to another title. Ben Stokes had announced his retirement from ODIs in July last year but decided to come out of retirement to help England defend their World Cup title. And as he eyes his second ODI World Cup title, Shubman Gill has heaped praise on him.

“The special thing about him is he always wants to be in the game. And he always wants to be the person who wants to get the job done for the team,” said Gill in a video posted by the ICC.

Meanwhile, England’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals is hanging by a thread. With only 1 win from 4 games, England are currently languishing at the eighth spot in the points table. As far as Ben Stokes is concerned, he could not play in the first three games due to an injury before returning to action during the game against South Africa.

The star allrounder failed to inspire his team to a much-needed win against the Proteas. He could score only 5 runs as South Africa thrashed the reigning world champions by 229 runs. England will be in action next on Thursday (October 26) when they lock horns against Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
