IND vs ENG: Kevin Pietersen Takes Indirect Dig At Nasser Hussain For 'End Of An Era' Remark After England's Loss

Former cricketer Kevin Pietersen took an indirect dig at Nasser Hussain’s “end of an era” comment after England’s third consecutive defeat in the World Cup 2023. Kevin Pietersen said that the England white-ball team had brought joy and excitement over the years.
The defending champions’ performance has been underwhelming in the World Cup, as they suffered four losses out of five matches. The Jos Buttler-led team are on the brink of early elimination after the eight-wicket loss against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on October 26.
Feel Like The End Of An Era – Nasser Hussain
In his column for The Daily Mail, Nasser Hussain expressed his belief that it’s time for an overhaul of the English team given their recent performances, as it feels like the end of an era.
“It’s easy to be wise after the event and say ‘it’s an old side, we should have picked Phil Salt or Will Jacks or Ben Duckett.’ But I would not have swapped any of the players England brought here for anyone else. I wouldn’t have changed the side before this tournament but I would definitely be thinking about changing it now because it does feel like the end of an era,” Hussain wrote.
“I have not seen this England side play as badly in any back to back matches as they have against South Africa in Mumbai and now here against Sri Lanka. They changed their tactics and side again in making three more changes and batting after winning the toss but, really, what’s most important is having players at the top of their games when you arrive at a World Cup,” he further added.
Don’t Start The Blame Game – Kevin Pietersen
Kevin Pietersen took to his X account to address negative comments about England’s performance in the World Cup, emphasizing that every cricket team experiences both ups and downs.
“This England white ball team has given us many years of absolute joy and excitement. I’m seeing quite a bit of negativity and ‘end of era’ stuff. If it is, that’s life. Don’t start the blame game. You’re embarrassing if you do!” Kevin Pietersen tweeted.

England are the only team in history to hold two limited-overs World Cup titles at the same time. The Three Lions registered their maiden ODI World Cup victory in 2019 in front of the home crowd. Jos Buttler led the team to the T20 World Cup title in Australia last year.
