India batter Virat Kohli congratulated his teammate Mohammed Shami for winning the Arjuna Award. The fast bowler was conferred with the second-highest sporting honor in India at New Delhi by President Droupadi Murmu.
Mohammed Shami was awarded the sporting honor because of his stupendous show with the ball in the year 2023. The fast bowler by far was the best bowler from India in both the red-ball as well as the white-ball. He wreaked havoc across the opposition’s batting lineup and put his team in a winning position in every game.
Mohammed Shami was on the top of his game in the ODIs and gave fans real hope of India winning the World Cup 2023. The fast bowler gave his best but ended up at the losing side as India suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final against Australia.
Mohammed Shami bagged 43 wickets in just 19 ODIs that he played. Out of those 24 scalps came during the ICC World Cup 2023. The fast bowler grabbed 24 wickets in just 7 games to go with three fifers. His sensational performance saw India reaching the final of the tournament.
As Mohammed Shami received the award, he posted the video on his social media handle. Virat Kohli was quick to applaud his teammates. The batter commented on the Instagram post of the fast bowler and wrote: “Mubarak ho Lala.”

Virat Kohli too has conferred with the Arjuna Award. The batter achieved the Award in the year 2013. Mohammed Shami joined the batter in the elite list and became only the 13th cricketer from the nation to bag the prestigious Award.

As Mohammed Shami was conferred with the Award, he spoke about his feelings to the media. The Indian pacer was elated with the development and couldn’t express his feelings. He thanked his family for supporting him through thick and thin and added that he will always give his best for the team. He elaborated:
“It’s the biggest achievement of my life I can’t express my feelings. I love my sport and I always try to do my best whatever I am doing. The kind of support my family gave to me to pursue my dream is just amazing.
“I don’t have words to explain how I started my journey from Amroha to Indian cricket. Passion is always there and I always try to play as much as I can and do well for the country.”
Mohammed Shami is currently undergoing rehabilitation due to the injury that he faced during the World Cup. The pacer had some troubles with his ankle and since then has been out of the action. He missed the South African series as well and now might return to the team for the England Tests.
India will be hosting England in the five-match Test series, starting 25th January. If Mohammed Shami is fit, he will play a crucial role in the team. The series will be extremely crucial in the context of the ICC World Test Championship.
