India wicketkeeper KL Rahul expressed his excitement about playing a World Cup 2023 match at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. KL Rahul highlighted the immense support and love from the crowd during last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), describing it as “unreal.”
The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Jos Buttler-led England in their next match of the tournament on Sunday, October 29. The Men in Blue are the only undefeated team in the tournament, while England has managed to secure one victory out of five games.
It’s Very Close To My Heart – KL Rahul
In a video posted by BCCI on its social media handle, KL Rahul fondly mentioned the incredible crowd turnout, love, and support received in the previous year. Rahul cherished the vibrant support from the Lucknow crowd and the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.
“I’m at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, my home ground when I play in the IPL for the Lucknow Super Giants. It’s a ground that’s very close to my heart. The last year that we played here, the turnout we saw from the crowd, the love, and the support that we got last year was unreal. And it’s the first time I really got to experience the Lucknow crowd or the support from the whole of UP in full flow. I entered the ground today, and I had to do some running.”
I Had Not Such A Great Experience – KL Rahul
KL Rahul expressed mixed feelings about returning to the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, his home ground during the IPL. He mentioned a past injury that had a significant impact on his career, describing it as a bad memory.
“My heart is racing because the last time I was here, I had not such a great experience or such a great moment in my career. So yeah, it was a bit bittersweet. Obviously, the ones that happen at the very end tend to stick with us for a lot longer and have a bigger impact on us. That injury obviously had a huge impact on me and my career. So it wasn’t such a happy moment for me or my family. I’ve been through many injuries in the little time that I’ve played for India. It’s not a great feeling for any athlete to keep getting injured so often, and to go under the knife and get surgery is very edifying.”
