Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about having a battle with former Pakistan star Javed Miandad. He admitted that the batter would win the battle against him as the right-hander was a fabulous player.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently posted a story on his Instagram account, which was a hypothetical survey. The story was about who will win vs who. The players from the current current were put up against the cricketers from the last generation.

The question in the Instagram story stated: “Who would win these contests?” The battles included Virat Kohli vs Waqar Younis, Babar Azam vs Anil Kumble, Rohit Sharma vs Wasim Akram, and Sachin Tendulkar vs Shaheen Afridi. And lastly Ravichandran Ashwin vs Javed Miandad.

Reacting to this, Ravichandran Ashwin was quick to admit he would not win the battle against Javed Miandad. He expressed his desire to play against the former Pakistan star, stating that wish he had a time machine. He wrote:

“Miandad will win the battle against me. What a fabulous player he was. I just wish there was a Time Machine”.

Javed Miandad no doubt was one of the finest batters to have played for the Pakistan Cricket Team. He was one of the key factors behind the team’s dominance in the 90s and his battles against India were one of the main highlights of his career.

Javed Miandad played a huge role in Pakistan winning the 1992 World Cup as he played sensational knocks for the team. His aggressive nature and the hunger to score set him apart from others. He ended his career with over 15000 runs to his name across two formats.

Ravichandran Ashwin on the other hand is the modern great and there’s hardly any better spinner than him in the game currently. The off-spinner is the mainstay of the Indian bowling lineup in the Tests and is the main reason behind the team being dominant.

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 490 wickets in 95 Test matches. He’s the second-leading wicket-taker for India in Tests. The off-spinner is on the cusp of achieving 500 wickets and will become the second active spinner to achieve the feat after Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, who recently achieved the feat.

Ravichandran Ashwin to play vital role for India in England Tests

Ravichandran Ashwin will be next seen in action in the Test series against England at home. India will take on Three Lions in the five-Test series, starting 25th January. The series will be extremely crucial for both the teams in context of the ICC World Test Championship.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin will no doubt be the key player. At Indians conditions, there’s no one better than him and if he gets going he runs through the opposition’s batting lineup. The off-spinner will be hoping to bring his best in the series and help the team win the game.

The upcoming series will be a great opportunity for Ravichandran Ashwin to claim the 500 Test wickets. The off-spinner would be eager to achieve the feat in the first game itself as he is just 10 scalps away.
