Former England batsman, Nasser Hussain opened up on Rishabh Pant’s role for India in Test cricket and said that he is a massive miss for Rohit Sharma’s side.

While speaking on ICC Review, Nasser Hussain also said that a fast bowler who is also an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya can help the Indian Test squad and keep a perfect balance.

“It’s away from home and the balance of the side and if they can get a seam bowling all-rounder. Hardik (Pandya) would’ve been perfect if Hardik had stayed fit and continued that process,” Hussain said.

The former England batsman, Nasser Hussain said that Hardik Pandya is a mixture of all the players and said that he can bring balance to the Test squad outside their home ground since he can also bowl at least 10 overs and can also bat well.

“An Indian cricketer at the moment, a (Ben) Stokes type cricketer, a Cameron Green type cricketer, a Mitchell Marsh type cricketer, a batter at No.6 or No.7, away from home, that can bowl you 10 or 15 overs of genuine wicket-taking seam and swing, not a bowler who bats a bit, a batter who can give you 10 overs of seam bowling, and then that balance away from home makes them formidable,” Hussain added.

Hopefully, he will come back: Naseer Hussain on Rishabh Pant

Nasser Hussain said how he once got updates about Rishabh Pant from Ricky Ponting since both of them keep in touch. Hussain also said he hopes to see Rishabh Pant in the Test squad.

“I was traveling with Ricky (Ponting) a lot during the Ashes, and he was texting Rishabh, and Rishabh was in the gym, and he was getting updates. He is a massive miss at the moment and hopefully, he will come back,” Nasser Hussain said.

Rishabh Pant last appeared in a Test match on December 22, 2022 against Bangladesh following which he has been out of the squad after he met with a serious car accident.

However, after several surgeries, Rishabh Pant has started his recovery session and hit the gym to join the Indian squad sooner than ever.
