While the first day of the first match of the five-match Test series between India and England was enthralling, the second day was even more entertaining. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday (26th January) saw the hosts dominating the day with the bat.
Continuing with the overnight score of 119/1, India didn’t have a great start to Day 2. They first lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for 80 runs as Joe Root removed the batter, who was looking to score quickly. To worsen the case more for them another overnight batter in Shubman Gill perished for 23 and they were reduced to 159/3.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer then brought India back into the game and made sure that they didn’t let England take the momentum for a longer time. The duo played sensibly in their innings and also played some aggressive hits that put bowlers under pressure and helped score runs quickly as well.
Rahul and Shreyas added 64 runs for the 4th wicket they helped India make up for the loss of two quick wickets on Day 2. Iyer tried to hit a big six but was caught at the boundary for 35 runs. Rahul on the other hand played a blistering knock but missed his well-deserved century by just 14 runs.
KL Rahul scored 86 runs off 123 balls and also slammed 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. But his 65-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja helped India take a first-innings lead. The duo played some breathtaking shots in their innings and put England on the back foot.

After Rahul perished, keeper-batter KS Bharat, who is making a comeback into the team, played a decent hand as well. The right-hander looked solid on the crease and added 68 runs with Jadeja. The batter was looking set for a half-century but fell short by 9 runs as he was trapped in LBW by Joe Root for 41 runs.

After KS Bharat got out, England made a slight comeback as Ravichandran Ashwin was involved in a horrible mix-up with Jadeja and perished for 1 run. But after that, Axar Patel along with his Gujarat teammate batted well and made bowlers tired.
Ravindra Jadeja slammed a magnificent half-century and put his team at the top, ensuring they took the lead over 150 runs. Axar Patel supported him well in the end as the duo added unbeaten runs for the partnership that ensured India ended the day on high.
While Jadeja remained unbeaten at 81, Axar Patel was batting at 35. At stumps on Day 2, India were 421/7 and were 175 runs ahead. For England, Tom Hartley picked two wickets along with Joe Root, who also bagged two scalps. Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed also chipped in with one wicket each.
