IND vs ENG 5th Test Day 2 – India innings: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit valiant centuries

India started Day 2 on where they left off yesterday. Overnight batters in skipper  Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill eased into their innings and played magnificently well. They were watchful early on in the day but once they had their eye in they didn’t look back and put opposition under pressure.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted aggressively and made England bowlers look clueless. First, the skipper brought up his century, and immediately after that young batter reached the milestone. During the time they were batting, the run rate was around 5.

The duo added 171 runs together before Rohit Sharma perished for 103 runs off 162 balls. Things got a bit tense for India as in the very over Shubman Gill perished too. The young batter went back in the hit after scoring 110 runs off 150 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and 5 sixes in his innings.

IND vs ENG 5th Test Day 2 – India innings: Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan slam vital half-centuries for team as hosts take lead of 255 runs

After both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got out, India came under a bit of pressure as England bowlers were all over the opposition. However, it was then when debutant Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan joined hands and made sure the team didn’t waste the start.

Sarfaraz Khan took some time to get going whereas on the other hand, Devdutt Padikkal was at his fluent best. The left-hander played some crisp shots in his innings before the right-hander joined the party and made sure that he too attacked and put pressure on the opposition.

Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal added 97 runs together and made sure that India went past a lead of 150 runs. While the Mumbai batter ended with an innings of 56 runs, the southpaw hit a magnificent half-century century on his debut and ended with a knock of 65 runs off 103 balls.

The duo lost their wickets to Shoaib Bashir and after that India lost quick wickets. Dhruv Jurel (15) tried to play attacking cricket and was caught at the boundary rope before Ravindra Jadeja (15) got trapped in lbw by Tom Hartley. Ravichandran Ashwin also failed to make an impact and bagged a five-ball duck.

Kuldeep Yadav (27*) and Jasprit Bumrah (19*) then made sure India didn’t lose any more wickets on Day 2. They added unbeaten 45 runs together and helped their team end the day on high. At Stumps, the hosts were 473-8 and are 255 runs ahead.
