South African cricketer Faf du Plessis heaped praise on ace Indian batter Virat Kohli for his unwavering determination, competitiveness, and consistent performance on the field. Faf du Plessis described Virat Kohli as an inspiration to his teammates and aspiring cricketers.

Faf du Plessis did not make it into South Africa’s squad for the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Notably, the 39-year-old batter captained the national team in the previous ODI World Cup in England. He was also part of the World Cup campaigns in the 2015 and 2011 editions.

In a video shared by Star Sports on X (formerly known as Twitter), Faf du Plessis expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli‘s unwavering dedication and competitiveness. Du Plessis boldly named Kohli the greatest chaser in the history of the game.

The standout things about Virat Kohli are his hunger and competitiveness to always be at his best for a game. I’ve never seen anyone else that has a stronger mindset than him, always on, always on, never an off switch, and that is so inspiring for guys playing with him because he led to a level of performance in a long way. I’m not surprised to see the numbers that he produced. Virat Kohli is the best chaser in the history of cricket,” Faf du Plessis told Star Sports.

Kohli began his World Cup campaign with a brilliant 85-run knock against Australia in Chennai. The batter followed it up with his 48th ODI hundred against Bangladesh in the fourth match and scored 95 runs against New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

Speaking on Star Sports, former Indian Sunil Gavaskar predicted that Virat Kohli would reach his 50th ODI century at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which holds a special place for its cricket-loving fans.

“Kohli will slam his 50th ODI Century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? He has two games to slam his 49th ton before reaching Kolkata. Eden Gardens is one of the best venues for run-scoring, and add to passionate cricket-loving fans in the stands.”

“It is a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savor for every batter,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

The 34-year-old will be next seen in action during Men in Blue’s match against the Jos Buttler-led team at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.
