Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that ace batter Virat Kohli will complete 50 ODI centuries in the ICC World Cup 2023. Sunil Gavaskar stated that Virat Kohli will equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in India’s next two matches of the event.

Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter for the Indian team in the marquee tournament at home. The right-handed batter scored 354 runs in five matches with an impressive average of 118. He also ended his long-lasting World Cup century drought against Bangladesh.

The 34-year-old narrowly missed equaling Tendulkar’s record when he was dismissed for 95 runs against New Zealand. The star batter got out while attempting a big shot to reach his milestone. Team India achieved a convincing victory in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

Virat Kohli Will Slam His 50th ODI Century Against South Africa – Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar anticipated that Virat Kohli would achieve his 50th ODI century on his birthday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata against South Africa.

“Kohli will slam his 50th ODI Century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? He has two games to slam his 49th ton before reaching Kolkata. Eden Gardens is one of the best venues for run-scoring, and add to passionate cricket-loving fans in the stands.”

“It is a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savor for every batter,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will face England and Sri Lanka in their next two matches before playing against South Africa. The Men in Blue are scheduled to take on England in Lucknow on October 29, followed by a match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on October 2.

The Indian team began their World Cup campaign with five consecutive victories in the ongoing ICC tournament. The home team currently leads the 10-team points table with 10 points. They need just two more wins to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
