Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag took a hilarious jibe at the England Cricket Team as they are set to bring their own chef to India. He said that the Ben Stokes-led side got desperate for this as Alastair Cook left and isn’t part of the squad.
England are all set to tour India for the five-match Test series. The series will begin on 25th January in Hyderabad and after that focus will shift to Vizag, where the second game of the series will be played from 2nd to 6th February.
The third Test between India and England will be played on 15th February in Rajkot followed by the fourth match to be played in Ranchi from 23rd to 27th December. The much-anticipated series between the teams will conclude in Dharamsala, where the last game will be played from 7th to 11th March.
With the Test series between India and England just a few days away from now, it is learned that Three Lions will travel with their own chef for the tour. The ECB has hired Omar Meziane, who is chef with English football club Manchester United, and even head coach Brendon McCullum approved the signing.
The move to bring their separate chef came after the England team had a poor food experience in Pakistan in 2022. Quite a few members of the team fell ill ahead of the opening game and this time around ECB doesn’t want to take any risk, making sure that the players get nutritious meals.
As the news related to the England team bringing along their chef for the India tour went viral, Virender Sehwag seized the opportunity to take a dig at them. Taking to his X account, he took a jibe at them, saying they won’t need any chef in IPL. He explained:
“Yeh zaroorat Cook ke jaane ke baad padhi IPL mein nahi padegi.”

The “Cook” referred to by Virender Sehwag was a subtle dig at England’s great Alastair Cook. The batter retired from Test cricket in 2018 and is still the leading run-getter for the team in the longest format of the game. Cook often was touted as the chef in the team and many used to tease him as well.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also didn’t shy away from taking a dig at the England team for bringing their own chef. He mocked them, saying that he’s sure that English players will bring their chef for IPL as well. Taking to his X account, he explained:
“Good idea. I’m sure that the majority of English players must be bringing in their chefs for the IPL too….year after year. AS IF.”
