Jasprit Bumrah has hit the ground running in international cricket after returning from his long injury lay off. The India star made his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the ongoing IND vs IRE T20I series after being sidelined with a back injury for almost a year.

And it has not taken him long at all to show his class. In his comeback back, he conceded just 24 runs in his four overs and picked up two wickets as he led India to a 2-run win (DLS method). And on Sunday (August 20), he starred with the ball as Team India thrashed Ireland by 33 runs in the second T20I to seal the three-match series with a match to go.

He conceded only 15 runs in his four overs and picked up 2 wickets. The two wickets also saw him surpass Hardik Pandya to become India’s 3rd highest wicket-taker in the T20I format. The ace pacer now has 74 wickets from 62 games, one ahead of Pandya in the all-time list.

After conceding 11 runs in the first two overs, the India stand-in captain conceded only 4 runs in the 17th over he bowled. He bowled the final over too and went on to bowl a maiden over while also picking up a wicket as Ireland finished on 152/8 in reply to India’s 185/5.

Abhishek Nayar praises Jasprit Bumrah:

Former India batsman Abhishek Nayar lavished praise on Jasprit Bumrah after the latter’s stunning display in the second T20I. Nayar gave the pacer full marks for his execution on the field. The former cricketer was impressed with the way Jasprit Bumrah handled himself during the game.

“He opened his bowling with 140 (kmph) just tells how eager he is. Bumrah spoke in the last game about the outfield being wet, this time around, he was on point from ball one.

Bowled just one over in the powerplay but then used himself very differently (12t, 17th, 20th). So, I think just in terms of his execution, he was 10 on 10. You could see his ball tailing in, you could see his ball seam in with the angle. We saw him using the off cutter and the leg cutter as well in the 2nd T20I,” Nayar said after the match on Jio Cinema.

“I think the Indian management and everyone in India will be extremely happy watching Bumrah bowl. I think somewhere the hope of winning the ODI World Cup has gone from 100 per cent to 110 per cent,” he added.

With the series already in the bag, Team India will be looking to inflict a whitewash on the hosts by winning the third and final T20I on Wednesday (August 23).
