Not Bothered By Jasprit Bumrah’s Speed: Aakash Chopra

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a little slower in IND vs IRE 1st T20I match, a little short of his 140+ mark on most occasions. Speaking on his YouTube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that he was not bothered by Bumrah’s speed. According to Chopra, Bumrah’s rhythm is good and the speed can be built later.

“There was a question that Jasprit Bumrah is not bowling at 140-145 kph. There was one ball that went over 140 and the rest were in the 130s. Is he supremely fit or not? Is he back for good? I am not worried, I am not bothered. I feel the rhythm is good and speed is something that can build later,” the 45-year-old said.

Aakash Chopra, who represented India from 2003 to 2004, also noted that in swinging conditions, pacers are advised to bowl only 80 per cent of their full speed. This helps them swing the ball.

“There are two sides to it. When you play in swinging conditions, it is advisable that you bring your pace down slightly, don’t bowl at your 100 percent, don’t go above 80 percent. Assuming your maximum pace is 140 kph, if you want to swing the ball, then be around 132-133 kph,” the former right-handed batter further said.

The men-in-blue leads the three-match series 1-0 after the opening encounter. IND vs IRE 2nd T20I takes place on Sunday (August 20) at The Village Stadium in Dublin. During India tour of Ireland in 2023, three T20I games will be played.
