India National Cricket Team premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave a blunt response when asked whether the expectations of captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid have put any pressure on him and said that having expectations is their problem and not his.
Bumrah is finally set to make his comeback to international cricket after being out of action since September 2022. He will be leading a young Team India on the Ireland tour.
Meanwhile, Rohit and Dravid have openly admitted that Bumrah’s absence has hurt the team a lot and his return will be a massive boost to the team’s chances in the upcoming multi-nation events.
Speaking ahead of the first T20I against Ireland, Bumrah made it clear that he doesn’t take anyone’s opinion seriously and doesn’t let himself go under pressure because of the weight of expectations.
The 29-year-old pacer added that he is coming back to cricket with minimal expectations and he is not thinking about contributing a lot. Jasprit Bumrah also said that everyone’s expectations are not his problem.
“I respect their opinion but irrespective they are good or bad, I don’t take anyone’s opinion seriously. I don’t want to put myself under pressure. I don’t put unnecessary expectations on me. I am coming back after a long time, I want to enjoy it now. I’m not thinking that I have to contribute a lot or I will change everything. I’m coming with minimal expectations. If others are expecting, it’s their problem, not mine,” Bumrah said when asked about the expectations of Rohit and Dravid.
You want to slowly keep on getting better with each and every game – Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah looked at his best in India’s practice session ahead of the Ireland T20Is. When asked about the same, he said that he is the same guy that got injured several months back.
While saying that he has belief in his abilities, Jasprit Bumrah asserted that he wants to enjoy his game and get better with each passing day.
“I’m just the same guy. I’ve always had a lot of belief in my ability. Yes, obviously I understand that I am coming back after a long layoff. So you obviously want to work your way up. You want to enjoy your game. You want to slowly keep on getting better with each and every game and not be too unrealistic with what you want to do. You want to feel good getting a lot more game time,” Jasprit Bumrah said.
The Men In Blue tour of Ireland consists of a three-match T20I series. The matches are scheduled to be held at the Malahide in Dublin on August 18, 20 and 23.
