Former West Indies player Ian Bishop highlighted the reasons behind India’s defeat in the last two editions of the ICC World Test Championship finals. According to Ian Bishop, lack of preparation was the reason for India’s defeat in both encounters.

India lost the ICC WTC Final 2023 to Australia this year. Australia outplayed India by 209 runs in the epic clash to grab the ICC Test mace. In the previous edition in ICC WTC Final 2021, New Zealand outplayed India by 2 wickets.

Was India Best Prepared For WTC Finals- Ian Bishop

While speaking to Revsportz, Ian Bishop shed light on reasons for India’s failure in both ICC World Test Championship finals. Bishop feels that India was not best prepared for the games. On the other hand, their opponents Australia and New Zealand were better prepared for the match, according to Bishop.

“When you mention the WTC finals, you need to think if you had the best people available for these occasions. Also, with the WTC final in England in June, was the Indian team the best prepared? When India played New Zealand, they were already in the country and better prepared. New Zealand was playing a Test series in England, if you remember”.

“Australia was there in England for longer this time round, and was better prepared. If you have the WTC in the UK where you need to better acclimatise, you will need more time to prepare better and give yourselves the best chance”, Bishop said.

Notably, ahead of ICC WTC final 2023, Indian players were busy with IPL 2023. They landed in the UK just a week ahead of the crucial clash.  On the other hand, Australian players were preparing for Ashes 2023 series and WTC Final 2023 for over a month. Some Aussie players also withdrew from IPL 2023 to prepare for both Test campaigns.

During ICC WTC final 2021, New Zealand were already in England and had also played two games on English soil. They defeated England in a two-match Test series. On the other hand, India reached the venue later and failed to outplay New Zealand in the WTC final 2021.
