Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed his surprise and concern over India’s unexpected loss to the West Indies in the recently concluded five-match T20I series. Harbhajan Singh said that the young Indian team will have learned a lot from the series’ defeat against the Windies.

The Men in Blue started on a poor note, losing the first two games. The Hardik Pandya-led team bounced back to level the series after the fourth T20I match. However, the Indian team suffered a series loss by a 3-2 margin, registering their first T20I series loss in the last 25 months.

I Thought India Will Win Easily – Harbhajan Singh

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh highlighted that the victory against India is a great accomplishment for the West Indies.

“I thought India will win easily against the West Indies, but the results have shocked and troubled several people. Even I was surprised that West Indies, a team that could not qualify for the World Cup, defeated India. It is a great accomplishment for the West Indies, but certainly troubling for Team India,” Singh said.

“Even though it was a second-string team without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, this should not have happened. The young brigade that toured, will have to learn a lot from this and move forward in their journey,” he added.

Veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn’t play a single T20I match after the semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup 2022. Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made their T20I debuts and were impressive with their batting performances.

Capable Of Fielding Three Different Teams – Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh believes India can field three different teams in international cricket at the moment. However, he admitted that the results may require some time.

“India is certainly capable of fielding three different teams, but it will take a while for the results to come. I hope that things are better from here onwards,” he further added.

The Indian selectors have opted for a second-string team in recent times to manage the workload of senior players. The Men in Blue will play with a young squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland and the 2023 Asian Games.
