All eyes are on Jasprit Bumrah as the Indian cricket fraternity eagerly awaits his return to international cricket ahead of this year’s ICC World Cup at home. The India pace spearhead has been out of action since September last year.

His last appearance for Team India came in September last year during the T20I series against Australia at home. At that time, he was sidelined due to a stress reaction in his lower back. Later in January this year, he was named in the India squad for the home ODI series against Sri Lanka.

But on the eve of the series, he suffered another injury setback and pulled out after experiencing pain in his back once again. A couple of months later, Jasprit Bumrah underwent back surgery in New Zealand before visiting the National Cricket Academy for his rehabilitation. He has been at the NCA since then.

Jasprit Bumrah to return during Ireland series:

While several reports suggested that Jasprit Bumrah could make his much-awaited comeback to international cricket in this year’s Asia Cup, the Time of India has reported that the star pacer could return to action before that.

The news outlet has reported that Jasprit Bumrah could be in line to play for Team India during the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland. The pacer has reportedly attained full fitness and is raring to go. He recently posted a video of himself bowling in the nets.

At the same time, the BCCI is also not looking to take any risk with Jasprit Bumrah and want the bowler to play a few practice games at the NCA before pronouncing him fit for a return to international cricket. There is a possibility that he might play in the Deodhar Trophy before playing any international game.

“The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games which the NCA will organise. The BCCI medical team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” said the BCCI on Friday (July 21) while giving an update on Jasprit Bumrah and his fellow pacer Prasidh Krishna.

Meanwhile, the T20I series between India and Ireland is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 23. The selectors are likely to name an inexperienced side for the series.
