Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his comeback in international cricket with the three-match T20I series against Ireland, which is scheduled to begin on August 18. However, Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly unlikely to be included in India’s squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined from action since September of last year. The right-arm pacer’s last appearance for the Men in Blue was in a T20I match against Australia. He suffered a back injury, which forced him to miss the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
The 29-year-old underwent successful surgery in New Zealand on his lower back earlier this year. He missed the entire season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC). He recently regained his full fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Participation In Asia Cup 2023 In Doubt
According to recent reports, the Indian selectors are cautious about rushing Jasprit Bumrah’s selection for the upcoming Asia Cup. The team management is uncertain about his ability to bowl 10 overs and field for 40 overs in the humid conditions of Sri Lanka during the continental tournament.
The Mumbai Indians pacer is expected to make his comeback in the ODI format with the ODI series against Australia. The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on Australia in their final series before the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be played between October 5 and November on Indian soil.
India’s Second-String Squad Heads to Ireland
The Indian team, led by Jasprit Bumrah, recently left for Ireland for the three-match T20I series. The three T20I matches will be played in Dublin from August 18 to 23. The selectors have chosen a second-string squad for this upcoming series, as senior players have been rested ahead of the Asia Cup.
India Squad: Jasprit Bumrah (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan.
