Romario Shepherd, the Caribbean all-rounder opened up on the historic series win against India after West Indies beat the Men in Blues in the fifth T20I match by eight wickets.
Hardik Pandya-led India won the toss and went to bat first. After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s opening partnership failed to make a mark, Suryakumar Yadav took charge and made 61 runs from 45 balls and gave a target of 166 runs.
Romario Shepherd, the Player of the Match showcased a stupendous performance with the ball and scalped four wickets and gave away 31 runs in his four-over spell. Shepherd took some crucial wickets and dismissed Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya.
In the second inning, India failed to take wickets and the home team took advantage of the situation and ended the match in the 18th over as Brandon King scored 85 runs from 55 balls with a strike rate of 154.55.
During the post-match presentation, Romario Shepherd said that for the last couple of months, West Indies have been going through a difficult time and that this win means a lot to them.
“It meant a lot to us, especially because we’ve been going through some hard times in the past couple of months, so to win against a team like India, it means a lot for us and the fans,” Shepherd said.
While talking about Sanju Samson’s wicket, the Caribbean said that their plan was to hit the wickets, and by that, he managed to shine with the ball in the first inning.
“Especially to Sanju, the plan was to hit the wicket and to Surya to get him to hit straight down the ground,” he added.

The 28-year-old said that it makes them happy since they ended up on the winning side and sent congratulations to Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King for playing well in the series.
“It makes me feel happy because we ended up on the winning side. So thanks to Pooran and King for playing so well. Right now, from the ODIs to now, I’ve been hitting my areas and bowling well from the start to the end,” he further added.
Shepherd will now be taking part in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. CPL 2023 will start on Thursday (August 17).
