IND Vs IRE: Ruturaj Gaikwad To Be India's Future Captain- Ex India Selector's Sensational Claim

Right-handed batsman, Ruturaj Gaikwad was praised by the former India selector Kiran More and said that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player has the potential to become the future captain of the Indian Cricket Team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently the vice-captain of the Men in Blues in the ongoing Ireland series. However, Jasprit Bumrah is leading the squad from the front in the three-game series after returning from injury.

Bumrah displayed a stupendous performance in the first inning as he took two wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 24 runs.

Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna also scalped two wickets each which helped the visitors to hold Ireland at 139/7.

In the second inning, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened from India and made a 46-run partnership which helped India to win the match by two runs by DLS after rain disrupted the game.

While speaking at Jio Cinema, Kiran More applauded Ruturaj Gaikwad and showed confidence in him. More said that he is waiting for Gakwad’s debut in Test cricket and that he can play in all three formats.

While talking about his stint at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the former Indian player said that Ruturaj Gaikwad is playing under MS Dhoni and that is why he knows how to handle situations.

“I’m waiting for his (Gaikwad) Test debut. Both (Gaikwad and Jaiswal) are outstanding players. Ruturaj can play all formats, his basics are so correct. He can be the future captain of India as well, he has got a great temperament. He’s playing under MS Dhoni, so he must have learnt things about handling the team and handling the situations. He’s a quality player, and I’m waiting for him to make his Test debut,” said Kiran More on Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Several cricketers waiting for Ruturaj Gaikwad to fail…: Saba Karim

Saba Karim, the former India player had a different take on Ruturaj Gaikwad and said that many other players are waiting for him to fail so that they can get a chance to get featured in the Indian squad.

Karim further added that Ruturaj Gaikwad needs to trust and rely on his ability to put big scores.

“Yashasvi scored a hundred on Test debut, then smashed a half-century during the T20I series against West Indies as well. Things are not easy for him, because there are several cricketers waiting for Ruturaj Gaikwad to fail so they can get a look-in. This is when your character has to come out, can you take that pressure? That is why this is a phase where he has to rely on his ability and try to put a big score,” said Saba Karim.

Jasprit Bumrah-led India will square off against Ireland on Sunday (August 20) at Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin. The match will begin at 7:30 PM IST.
