IND vs IRE: Shubman Gill Has More Talent Than Most International Players- Brendon McCullum

England Test head coach Brendon McCullum heaped praises on Indian player Shubman Gill during an event in Mumbai. The former New Zealand skipper said that Shubman Gill has more talent than most international players.
Shubman Gill has cemented his place in the Indian team as a permanent opener across all three formats. 2023 has been a fabulous year for Gill. He is the leading run-getter for Team India. In IPL 2023, he won the orange cap after smacking the most runs in the season.

Brendon McCullum is someone who knows Shubman Gill closely. The Kiwi star was the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in IPL till last season. Gill was a member of KKR from IPL 2018 to IPL 2021.

Hence, McCullum has also worked with Shubman Gill. During the CEAT awards show in Mumbai, the former Kiwi opener praised Gill and said that he has more talent than most international players.
“Shubman Gill is someone I really enjoyed working with. He’s someone who has more talent than most of the international players”, McCullum said during the event.
After Shikhar Dhawan’s poor batting show in the ODI series against Bangladesh last year, Gill was tried as an opener in ODIs. The right-handed batsman shattered a double century against New Zealand to showcase his might in the ODI format.
Later, the 24-year-old also replaced KL Rahul as the Test opener during the Test series against Australia. KL Rahul was dropped from the playing XI after two Tests with his poor scores. Gill replaced him and also smacked a century in one game to cement his place as an opener for India.

Shubman Gill Won Orange Cap In IPL 2023
Later, the Punjab batter also rocked in IPL 2023, smacking 3 centuries. With 890 runs in 17 games, Gill emerged as the highest run-getter in the season and won the orange cap.
While the Gujarat Titans opener has managed to impress in ODIs, he still has a little work to do in the shortest format. Recently, Gill witnessed a miserable batting show in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. Gill got out for single digits in multiple games as India lost the five-match series 3-2.
