Arshdeep Singh, on Wednesday (June 5), impressed with the new ball once again as he put India in the driver's seat in the ongoing game against Ireland. The Men in Blue opened their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by taking on Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie struggled to score at a good pace in the first two overs. After Arshdeep Singh conceded just three runs in the first over, the Ireland batters managed to collect only 4 runs from the second over bowled by Mohammed Siraj.
However, they could not last long in the middle as Arshdeep Singh sent back both of them in the third over to put India in the driver's seat. He first dismissed Stirling on the first ball of his second over, making the Ireland captain top-edge one before Rishabh Pant completed an easy catch.
And on the final ball of the same over, Arshdeep Singh sent back Balbirnie as well by castling him with a beauty. The left-arm pacer bowled a length delivery on the middle stump and Balbirnie wanted to steer the ball towards deep third man. However, the Ireland opener was beaten by the angled delivery as the ball went on to crash into the stumps.

Talking about the game, Ireland were 26 for 2 in the sixth over at the time of writing this report. The Irish outfit needs a serious turnaround in their fortunes to post a competitive total against their fancied opponents. India, on the other hand, will be looking to ensure that they do not let Ireland off the hook and restrict them to a modest total before clinching an impressive win to start their campaign.
