While Team India will be the favorites against Ireland in the upcoming three-match T20I series, spinner Ben White has fired a timely reminder to the visitors. The Ireland spinner has stated that Ireland have the required firepower to upset India in the forthcoming series.
The three-match series will be getting underway on Friday (August 18) in Dublin. India have named a second-string side for the series as most of the first-choice players will be busy preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has not played a competitive game since September last year, will lead the Indian team.
Team India will definitely be under pressure against Ireland. They are not only missing most of their big names for the series but are also coming into the series after losing to West Indies. On the other hand, Ireland has most of their first-choice players available for the series.
The familiar home condition also tilts the balance slightly in their favor. Ireland are yet to win a T20I against India. In the last two home series against India, they ended up getting whitewashed on both occasions. Ben White, however, is confident that the hosts can turn things around in the upcoming series.
“We can beat anyone on our day – you never know what can happen and you have to believe. Playing against India at home is huge, they’re the best team in the world but we are relishing the challenge,” Ben White was quoted as saying to the BBC.
Ben White’s target for the series:
Speaking further, Ben White also revealed the name of the Indian batsman he would like to dismiss in the series. The spinner said that he has kept Sanju Samson on top of his wish list among the batters he wants to dismiss. He also said that he would not be defensive during the series despite the Indian batters being good players of spin bowling.
“He’s been very good over the last years and they have some very exciting talent in their squad – in truth, I’d be happy with anyone’s wicket,” said Ben White.
“They are very good players of spin but I don’t think I would be more defensive. I’ll just be trying to take wickets and attacking. Everyone’s excited and we’ll eliminate pressure by playing the way we do. Every ball is an event and we have to stay one step ahead of them.
“We’ll enjoy it – with the big crowd they bring to the ground and the noise they make it should be a great spectacle,” White added.
