Virat Kohli has had a dream run in the ICC World Cup 2023 so far scoring 543 runs from eight games at an average of 108.60 including one century. He is the third-highest run-getter at the moment and is pushing for finishing at the top.

Kohli found form in the Asia Cup 2022 last year in September. Since then he has scored 9 centuries including two at the World Cup, and has 79 tons in international cricket, which makes him second only to fellow India great Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries).

This was after a bleak period from November 2019 and September 2022 where he failed to score a century. He scored 10 fifty-plus scores in that period but could not convert them into hundreds.

He has been able to carry forward that form into this World Cup and has been solid with the bat for India. Batting legend Sir Viv Richards in a conversation with ICC spoke about Kohli’s transition from that tough phase to now where he is consistently scoring runs.

“Virat will have been through some tough times before this World Cup and some folks were even brave enough to call for his head. There have been a whole host of talented individuals on show but to top them all, you cannot look past Virat Kohli. I am a huge fan of Virat, I have been for a long time, and he continues to show why he has to go down as one of the all-time greats, right up there with the likes of the great Sachin” Sir Viv said.

Virat Kohli & I Shared The Same Intensity On The Field: Viv Richards

He then spoke about people drawing comparisons between him and Virat Kohli over the years saying that they shared the same intensity on the field.

“Many people have made comparisons between the two of us over the years, partly because of our shared intensity on the field. I love Virat’s enthusiasm — even if he is fielding at long-on or long-off, when one of his bowlers hits the pad, he is appealing. He is always in the game and I like individuals like that,” said Richards.

Kohli won the World Cup as a player in 2011. In 2015 and 2019, he played a big part in India making the semi-finals. In 2023, he is almost leading the charge of India’s dream run of winning 8 games on the trot leading upto the semi-final.
