Virat Kohli’s famous inning against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground served as a timely reminder of why he is considered as one of the greatest players of all time following a stretch of poor performance.

Kohli listed two individuals as his picks for the title of “GOAT” throughout the history of cricket.

At the 2022 T20 World Cup match between Pakistan and Team India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Virat Kohli produced probably the best innings of his career, serving as a timely reminder of why he is regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.

In front of more than 90,000 spectators, the Men in Blue defeated their bitter opponents in a high-stakes match on the final ball after bringing down a total of 160. With an unbeaten 82 in 53 balls, Kohli was the game’s star as the 2007 champions came back from being 31-4 down to win.

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) argument has been resurrected by Kohli’s performance, and for good reason—the Indian superstar’s supremacy across all formats makes him without a doubt one of, if not the most complete batter ever.

Given his remarkable career, which began in 2008, many people will argue convincingly that Kohli is the “GOAT,” but the player himself has resisted using the title.

“I wouldn’t consider myself the GOAT of cricket”: Virat Kohli

The former Indian captain made a strong statement, claiming that only two players in the history of the game have earned the coveted title. The two players that are the “GOAT” for him are, in Kohli’s opinion, former West Indies batsman Viv Richards and Indian batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar.

“No, I wouldn’t consider myself the GOAT of cricket. For me, only 2 people qualify for it. It’s Sachin Tendulkar and Viv Richards,” said Kohli on Star Sports in a show about the most googled questions about him.

Tendulkar and Kohli were teammates for five years and competed for India at the 2011 World Cup. Tendulkar has also frequently praised Richards as a person who encouraged him to play the game and someone he looked up to while he was a young fan.
