Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth made a cheeky remark after the much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 was abandoned due to rain. S Sreesanth said that the rain saved a lot of television sets from being destroyed in Pakistan.
The India-Pakistan match ended without a result at the Pallekele International Stadium on Saturday, September 2. The Rohit Sharma-led team was bowled out for 265 runs in the first innings. However, the rain didn’t allow a single ball to be bowled in the second innings.
Cricket fans in Pakistan have a history of expressing frustration by breaking television sets and burning players’ posters when the men’s team loses. Their frustration was evident after the 2015 World Cup clash against India, where Pakistan lost comprehensively by 76 runs.
India Were Able To Post A Good Score – S Sreesanth
In an interview with Sportskeeda, S Sreesanth pointed out that India had managed to post a competitive score despite initial setbacks.
“A lot of television sets were saved, especially in Pakistan. Rain saved Pakistan, as India were able to post a good score despite losing early wickets. Their prayers were answered. But it’s okay, we will beat them in the final,” Sreesanth said.
Wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan and all-rounder Hardik Panda rescued the team from 66-4 to put up a total of 266 runs on the board in 50 overs. Ishan scored 82 runs on 81 balls, and Pandya contributed 87 runs off 90 balls. The duo put up a 138-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
