The India National Cricket Team defeated the Nepal National Cricket Team by 10 wickets in a rain-curtailed game during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led team advanced to the Super Four stages of the continental tournament following a victory in their last group match.

Nepal, who made their Asia Cup debut this season, faced India for the first time in international cricket. Nepal cricket team captain Rohit Paudel presented a special memento to Rohit Sharma before the start of play at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday, September 4.

When Rohit Paudel presented a special gift, Rohit Sharma had a humorous response. The Indian skipper appeared puzzled after posing for a photo with his Nepalese counterpart. Rohit signalled to the dressing room for someone to take the gift from him as they prepared for the start of the match.

India Advance To Super Four Stage Of Asia Cup 2023

India won the toss and chose to bat first in their final group-stage game. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah missed the match as he travelled to India for the birth of his first child. The Indian fast bowlers troubled the Nepal batters and created opportunities within the powerplay.

The Nepal team managed to score 230 runs on the board in 50 overs. Openers Kushal Bhurtel (38) and Aasif Sheikh (58) added a 65-run opening partnership. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Mohammed Siraj picked up three wickets each during the match.

The target was revised to 145 runs in 23 overs after a two-hour rain interruption. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 147 runs in 20.1 overs. Rohit scored 74 runs, while Shubman contributed 67 runs to help the team register a win in the must-win clash.

Reflecting on his knock, Rohit Sharma said, “Not really (happy with the knock), some nerves to start with but once I got my eye in, I wanted to get the team home. That was not intentional (the flick-sweep), I wanted to chip it over short fine but the bats these days are so good.”
