Fans on X reacted after Mohammed Shami picked five wickets against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2023. The fast bowler was all over the Kiwi batters in the ongoing match 21 of the tournament at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. 

Mohammed Shami, who played his first game in the ICC World Cup 2023, oozed his class and gave a strong statement to the selectors. The pacer struck on the first ball of his innings and he removed Will Young and then didn’t look back. 

Mohammed Shami also removed well-set Rachin Ravindra for 75 runs and then exhibited his skills at the death. He sent packing Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry with two thunderbolts on two consecutive balls in Dharamsala before taking the wicket of centurion Daryl Mitchell (130). 

Mohammed Shami’s staggering show with the ball saw India bundling out New Zealand to a total of 273 runs. He returned with the figures of 5/54. Apart from him, Kuldeep Yadav also picked two wickets whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bagged one wicket each. 

Mohammed Shami has been on the sidelines due to the presence of Shardul Thakur in the team. However, with the way he performed in today’s game, he might have given a great headache to the team management. The absence of Hardik Pandya paved the way for him in the team as India didn’t trust Thakur to be the fifth bowler. He has been in poor form and has been leaking a lot of runs as well.
