India National Cricket Team riding on the fantastic performances from Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami defeated the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

India continued their brilliant run in the competition and made it 5 out of 5 by defeating the Tom Latham-led side. The Men In Blue won the match by 4 wickets with 12 balls remaining and this was India’s first win over the Kiwis in the ICC events since the 2003 World Cup.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match considering the dew factor in the second innings. They were forced to make two changes to their playing XI after all-rounder Hardik Pandya got ruled out of the match due to an ankle injury.

Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav came in as replacements for Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya. The BlackCaps, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged playing XI.

The Men In Blue got off to a great start as they removed the Kiwi openers – Devon Conway and Will Young – for low scores.

However, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra stitched together a sensational 159 runs in 152 balls to help New Zealand make a stunning comeback in the match. Daryl Mitchell smashed 130 runs off 127 balls, including 9 fours and 5 sixes, while Rachin Ravindra scored 75 runs off 87 balls, with 6 fours and 1 six. In the end, New Zealand posted 273 runs on the board.

For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a sensational 5-wicket haul. Also, Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah got one wicket each.

During the run-chase, Rohit Sharma played his natural attacking brand of cricket and smashed the bowlers all over the park despite the ball seaming around up front. He stitched together crucial 71 runs with Shubman Gill to provide India with an excellent start.

Then, Virat Kohli took center stage and took India home. He was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, who chipped in with crucial runs to help India end the Kiwi jinx.

Kohli showcased why he is considered the chase-master as he slammed magnificent 95 runs off 104 balls, with 8 fours and 2 sixes. The batting great tried to finish things off in style by smashing a six, but unfortunately, he was dismissed. However, his innings was enough to power India to a remarkable win.
