Former India captain Kris Srikkanth defended Virat Kohli’s batting approach in the match against Bangladesh during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Srikkanth expressed surprise at the criticism from fans after Kohli scored his 48th century for India in the 50-over format.
Virat Kohli’s decision to refuse singles in the late stages of India’s successful chase has sparked a debate on social media. Kohli, who was on 74 with India needing 26 runs, faced every ball to achieve his century. He denied singles after a discussion with KL Rahul.
India required two runs for victory in the 42nd over, with Virat Kohli on 97. The 34-year-old reached his century and secured the win with a six on the third ball of the over bowled by Nasum Ahmed. The hosts beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in Pune on Thursday, October 19th.
What Is Wrong In What Virat Kohli Did? – Kris Srikkanth
Following India’s fourth consecutive victory in the World Cup 2023, Kris Srikkanth emphasized that there was nothing wrong with Virat Kohli‘s desire to reach a century. Srikkanth underlined the significance of achieving a century in a World Cup match.
“What is wrong in what virat did? I question ppl who don’t understand cricket, note it is a huge deal to score A century in a world cup, @imVkohli deserves this & much more! kudos to a team man like @klrahul who deserved it against Aus in Chennai ! Enjoy when u still can,” Srikkanth tweeted.

The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 97 during India’s opening match against Australia in Chennai. The right-handed batter attempted to score a boundary when 5 runs were needed, but the ball went for a six, and India won the game by six wickets.
I Wasn’t Going To Run Singles – KL Rahul
KL Rahul shared that Virat Kohli was hesitant to turn down singles as he approached his century. Rahul said that he encouraged Kohli to go for it, assuring that the match was already in their favor.
“He was confused, actually. He said, ‘it would not look too nice to not take a single, it is still a World Cup match. It’s a big stage, and I don’t want to look like I want to get a milestone’. But I said, ‘it is not won but we will still win it quite easily, so if you can get to the milestone, why not. You must try’. And he did that in the end and I wasn’t going to run singles!,” the keeper-batter stated.
