Ahead of the much-awaited semifinal clash between India and New Zealand in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, the police have arrested a man for black marketing of tickets.
The match is scheduled to be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (November 15). There is a huge demand for tickets as fans across the country are desperate to watch high-flying Team India in action against the Black Caps.
The high demand has also led to the black marketing of tickets, as the black marketeers aim to capitalize on the soaring demand. One such man named Akash Kothari was arrested from his home in Malad by a team of JJ police station. According to WhatsApp messages circulating in various groups, the tickets were being sold in the range of ₹27,000 to ₹2.5 lakh, a police officer said.
“He was selling the tickets at four to five times its original cost. He has been charged for cheating and other offences under sections 420 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code,” the officer said.
India and New Zealand gear up for high-voltage World Cup clash:
For the second time in a row, India and New Zealand will face each other in the semifinal of an ODI World Cup. In 2019, they were up against each other in Manchester and New Zealand had ended up on the winning side on that occasion before losing to England in the final. India will be seeking revenge in the upcoming game while the Black Caps will be hoping to make it to the final of the ODI World Cup for the third time in a row.
In the ongoing World Cup, Team India have been the best team so far. They are the only unbeaten side left in the competition so far. The Rohit Sharma-led side has won all of its nine games so far. New Zealand, on the other hand, began their campaign with four successive wins before losing four in a row. In their final league game, they beat Sri Lanka to get back to winning ways.
