IND vs NZ: MS Dhoni Up For A Big Role In The Indian Team: Reports

Many people were shocked by Team India’s embarrassing elimination from the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Now the BCCI has discussed adding MS Dhoni to the T20 team in some form to add the specialized talent needed for that brave type of cricket in ICC competitions. While the World Cup was being played in the UAE last year, Dhoni assisted the squad in a temporary role.
Dhoni, who guided India to three ICC championships, is skilled in the reckless style and could play Strauss’ role to the letter. Michael Vaughan, a former captain of England, agrees that the BCCI should “swallow pride” and “turn to England for inspiration.”
BCCI Looking To Use MS Dhoni’s Expertise
The BCCI wants to make the best use of Dhoni’s experience and technical knowledge before he retires from the game after the IPL in the next year. Since handling three formats is proving to be too hard for head coach Rahul Dravid, the former captain might be requested to work with a specialised group of players.
Dilip Vengsarkar, a former captain and chief selector who played a key role in identifying players like MS Dhoni while serving as the head of the BCCI’s now-defunct Talent Research Development Wing, is a member of the top council.
The opinions of Vengsarkar will be very significant. Vengsarkar, who is known for speaking his thoughts, could attest to the need for significant format modifications. The procedure must start right away, and as has been demonstrated in Australia, any gentle pedalling will be of little help.
Coaches’ Positions To Be Divided?
The BCCI must start rebuilding the team immediately if it is to adopt the ECB model. The West Indies and the USA will host the following T20 World Cup in June 2024. It’s only a matter of time before Hardik Pandya is selected as the regular T20 captain, but the BCCI hasn’t decided whether to designate a different coach for the shortest format.
Additionally, there have been requests for the coaches’ positions to be divided, and the topic may be discussed at the apex council meeting later this month. Since selecting the newly reorganised selection panel will be its top priority, the creation of the Cricket Advisory Committee will also take precedence.
