New Zealand National Cricket Team captain Kane Williamson turned into a water boy for the Kiwis in the 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

Kane Williamson is not playing today’s match against the Men In Blue as he is not fit to compete. The Kiwi skipper is nursing a fracture to his thumb, which he suffered during the match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 13.

He is set to miss a few more matches for New Zealand and is expected to be fit for the latter half of the competition. In his place, Tom Latham has taken charge of the team and has done a brilliant job. Also, Tom Blundell has been called up as an unofficial cover for the World Cup.

Although Kane Williamson is not being able to play for the Kiwis, he was seen helping the players in the middle as he carried drinks for them.

It was at the end of the 14th over when Kane Williamson brought the drinks on the field for Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who were trying to bring some momentum back towards New Zealand after losing early wickets.

Earlier, India won the toss and invited the BlackCaps to bat first in the match. The Indian bowlers delivered a terrific performance with the ball as they removed in-form openers Devon Conway and Will Young inside 10 overs.

Speaking at the toss, stand-in captain Tom Latham said that they were also looking to bowl first in the match. He also said that they need to continue the winning momentum. He said:

“We’d have bowled first as well. Looks like a good surface, and we know the dew will come in. The important thing is whatever we do, we need to do well.

“We need to keep the momentum going. We are in a new ground, new conditions so need to adjust to these conditions as quickly as we can. We’ve got the same team for today – three seamers and two spinners.”
