India captain Rohit Sharma has leaped in defense of Virat Kohli ahead of the crucial game against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

All eyes will be on Kohli when India lock horns against the arch-rivals on Sunday (June 9) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The former India skipper recently faced criticism from several quarters for not playing in the warm-up game against Bangladesh.

The Indian team management and the BCCI made an exception for Virat Kohli again and gave him an extended break after the IPL. As a result, he was not a part of the group that traveled to New York. He linked up with the team just before the warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1 and decided against playing in it.

Many criticized him for not playing in the warm-up game and the criticism only increased after he failed with the bat in during India's World Cup opener against Ireland. The right-handed batsman was out for just 1 run off 5 balls. With Kohli facing the heat, Rohit Sharma has leaped in his defense ahead of the game against Pakistan. Speaking to the media, the India skipper stated that he is not worried about Kohli's lack of training as he doesn't rely on one player to win the game for India. He said:

"Look, I don’t rely on one individual to win us the game. Virat has enough training under his belt. Kind of experience he has, nothing can beat that."

Virat Kohli eyes strong show:

While Virat Kohli could not get going against Ireland, he has been in good form at the moment. Before the T20 World Cup, he had a stunning campaign in the IPL. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished the competition as the highest run-scorer, scoring 741 runs with the help of one century and half-centuries.

He will be looking to bounce back when India take on Pakistan on Sunday. Kohli has a stunning record against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup and will be looking to make the most of it. In 5 games against Pakistan so far, he has scored over 300 runs with the help of four fifties.
