Ahead of the highly anticipated clash against Team India in the ongoing 2023 World Cup, former allrounder Shahid Afridi has revealed that he had a conversation with Pakistan captain Babar Azam. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan is scheduled to take place on Saturday (October 14) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

And while Pakistan are in good form ahead of the match, the form of their captain will be a huge concern for them. The right-handed batsman played two fine knocks in the warm-up games, scoring 80 and 90 against New Zealand and Australia respectively. However, Babar Azam has failed to do well in his first two outings of the main tournament.

In Pakistan’s tournament opener against the Netherlands, he was out for just 5. And against Sri Lanka when his team was chasing a huge total of 345 runs, the Pakistan captain was out for just 10 although centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan took the Men in Green over the line.

Shahid Afridi reveals conversation with Babar Azam:

The whole of Pakistan would be hoping that their talismanic batsman returns to form for the crucial clash against India. And ahead of the game, Shahid Afridi has revealed that he tried to boost Babar Azam’s confidence. He also congratulated the Pakistan captain for leading the team to victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

“I spoke to Babar Azam last night and congratulated him about the win,” he said. “I told him to be confident since he is a big match player. I backed him to score big in coming matches.”

Speaking further, the former Pakistan captain said: “When Babar replied to my message, he also seemed positive and eager to do well. He was unlucky in the last match, but I’m sure he will score a hundred in the big matches.

Both India and Pakistan have started their campaigns with two wins from as many games. India have defeated Australia and Afghanistan so far. Both teams will be looking to extend their winning run when they take on each other,
