Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has advised Babar Azam to be more careful with his words and back his players during post-match presentations and press conferences.
Babar Azam blasted his players in the post-match presentation after Pakistan lost to the USA in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Babar Azam mentioned that his team did not bat well in the first 6 overs. He also blamed spinners for not performing up to the mark. During the match, he also got angry with bowlers and fielders for mistakes.
Pakistan lost to the United States in the super over. Notably, Babar Azam was the best batter with his 44 runs. Shadab Khan was the next with his 40 runs. The USA showed better teamwork to downplay the Asian Giants in the match to win the second game in a row.
Dinesh Karthik advises Babar Azam to be a little diplomatic with words
While many cricket experts were unsatisfied with the Pakistan team, cricket commentator Dinesh Karthik was not happy with Babar Azam's comments and his blame games towards his players.
Karthik, who retired from all forms of cricket after IPL 2024, advised Babar Azam to be more diplomatic during press conferences and post-match presentations while speaking to Cricbuzz.
“As a leader, you have to find a way to be very diplomatic in press conferences and post-match ceremonies, and somehow find a way to back your players. Inside the four walls in the dressing room, you can say what you want and have a go at a few people, but you need to find a way to back those players”.
“He needs to be saying things like, yes, it was a bad day. You know, probably we could have done certain things better, but we will make sure that we will, once we get on a roll, we have some special players. That's the kind of language to state things”, Karthik said.

Babar Azam’s gestures on the field are not a sign of a good leader: Karthik
Dinesh Karthik also feels that Babar Azam’s body language during the match expressed his anger and dissatisfaction towards his player. Hence, he needs to change that approach as it is not a sign of a good leader.
“And the way he's conducted himself on the field, where he's having a go at some of the bowlers when boundaries go, or his shoulders dropping, isn't the sign of a good leader”.
“I think he needs to find a way to have a body language which suggests that he's okay with what is happening, and they can still come around”, the former RCB wicketkeeper further added.

Pakistan pacers fail to deliver against USA
Pakistan has faced a big setback after losing the opening game to USA. With the return of pace stalwarts Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah, Pakistan was expected to arrive with a lethal bowling attack in ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
However, their pace attack seemed to fall like a house of cards against USA as they failed to defend a 160-run target against them. Moreover, Pakistan could dismiss only 3 USA batters while the latter scalped 7 Pakistan batters in 1st innings.
