Veteran India pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar opened up on his future and said that he is not playing cricket to make a comeback in the Men in Blues squad but to do it to play good cricket.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar played his last international for the Men in Blues in 2022 against New Zealand following that he has not featured in any game for India.
The 33-year-old pacer made his India debut in the T20I format against Pakistan in 2012. Following this he has played 87 20-over matches and scalped 90 wickets.
In the ODI format, Bhuvneshwar Kumar played his first game in 2012 against Pakistan and went on to feature in 121 games and took 141 wickets. However, the India pacer did not play much Test cricket and made his debut against Australia in 2013. He played 21 career long-format matches and picked up 63 wickets.
While speaking to The National, Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that when a fast bowler knows that there is only a few years left in his career then it hits them and tries to enjoy the game more.
The 33-year-old said that it does not bother him the fact that he is not part of the India squad. Bhuvneshwar reckoned that he is just trying to play not planning to make a comeback.
“When you are at a stage when you know you are going to play only for a few more years – being a fast bowler – it hits you and you want to enjoy cricket. I am at that stage now.
“Yes I am not part of the Indian team, but this does not bother me. It’s not that I am trying something different or planning anything new to come back. I am just focusing on playing cricket,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said.
I am doing what is needed to play good cricket: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The veteran pacer who has many wickets in his bad added that he is trying to play good cricket and nothing more. The pacer stated that there is a chance of his comeback in the Men in Blues squad but that is not his focus currently.
“I am not playing just to make a comeback. I am doing what is needed to play good cricket. There might be a chance to make a comeback [to the Indian team]. But that is not my focus. Whatever format or leagues I play, I want to contribute. If things fall into place, I can make a comeback but that is not my sole focus now,” the 33-year-old added.
Rohit Sharma-led India will lock horns against Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday (September 10th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
