Team India is set to face Pakistan in a highly anticipated clash during the ongoing Asia Cup at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 7. Despite the immense excitement surrounding the match, there is a concern that it could be affected by adverse weather conditions.

The two neighbouring nations are meeting in the 50-over format for the first time in the last four years. India and Pakistan last played an ODI match during the 2019 World Cup in Manchester. They haven’t faced each other in an international game since the T20 World Cup match in Melbourne last year.

According to visuals from Disney+ Hotstar, covers are on in Pallekele due to overcast conditions. AccuWeather’s report suggests there are chances of rain and showers throughout the match. The forecast predicts cloudy and humid conditions in the afternoon, with a high cloud cover of around 98 per cent.

India Can Qualify To Super Four Stage Despite Washout Against Pakistan

The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Babar Azam-led team in their first match of the continental tournament. The Men in Blue will test their full-strength team in the ongoing tournament ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played at home later this year.

Both India and Pakistan must complete a minimum of 20 overs to produce a result in the match. The target for the second batting team will be adjusted using the DLS method for rain interruptions. Each team will receive one point if the match is entirely washed out due to bad weather.

Pakistan is poised to advance to the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 if the match against India is washed out, accumulating three points to their tally. The Men in Green of Pakistan clinched a dominant 238-run victory against Nepal in their first group-stage match in Multan.

On the other hand, Team India’s path to the Super Four stage depends on their next match against Nepal. The Rohit Sharma-led team must defeat Nepal in their upcoming group match to advance to the Super Four stage of the event, which would also earn them three points.
