Rohit Sharma-led India will lock horns against Babar Azam’s Pakistan on Sunday (September 10th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The match will kick off at 3:00 PM IST.

During the toss the 36-year-old India skipper, Rohit Sharma gave a huge update on the team and said that Shreyas Iyer has been kept out of the playing eleven due to a back spasm and KL Rahul has been included in the squad on his place.

Shreyas Iyer made his return from a long injury on Saturday (September 2nd) against Pakistan in Men in Blue’s first match of the Asia Cup 2023.

Earlier, Iyer was out of the team for the last five months after he received a back injury during the fourth Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia. Following this, Shreyas Iyer has been out of the crease for several months and missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for the Kolkata-based franchise.

On the other hand, KL Rahul who was also out of the field for three-four months will make his return on the crease against Pakistan in the high-voltage match.

KL Rahul received a thigh injury during an IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) After that he missed the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023 against Australia.

The two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan have already faced each other in the third group match of the Asia Cup 2023, and the match was canceled after the first inning without any result due to rain. However, the Indian batting order suffered in front of the Pakistani bowling attack and they need to find an anecdote and improve in the Super Fours match.

Twitter’s reaction to Shreyas Iyer’s injury

One X (formerly known as Twitter) user questioned the team management’s decision and said how it was a coincidence that Shreyas Iyer got injured once KL Rahul was available.

Another fan too felt suspicious for the sudden injury of Shreyas Iyer and asked how the team is informing about it just before the match.

Another Indian cricket fan on X said that the 36-year-old skipper cannot give silly reasons for dropping someone who scored most runs in the middle order after Virat Kohli.

Another Indian cricket fan used sarcasm while talking about Shreyas’ injury and said that Rohit Sharma should have used the word niggle since the fans are more used to it.
