IND vs PAK: Harbhajan Singh Doubtful If Rohit Sharma And Rahul Dravid Hiding Reality Behind Shreyas Iyer's Injury To Fit KL Rahul

Former India spinner, Harbhajan Singh questioned Shreyas Iyer’s injury before the start of the high-voltage match in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan on Sunday (September 10th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Harbhajan Singh said that it is either bad luck or the team management is making positions for KL Rahul.

Apart from Harbhajan Singh, Sunil Gavaskar also questioned the decision to replace Shreyas Iyer with KL Rahul. While speaking in India Today, Gavaskar said that it is a worry for the team management since the ODI World Cup 2023 is also approaching.

Sunil Gavaskar also added that it is a good thing that the upcoming World Cup squad can be changed and if Shreyas Iyer fails to recover, one can be included in the squad.

The former player praised Shreyas Iyer and said that he looked good in the group match against Pakistan and stated that he played a good cover drive.

“It’s a worry definitely. If a player is out for 5-6 months due to an injury and then has it again within a month before the World Cup, so yes it is an area of concern. Luckily, you can make changes in your World Cup team, and in case he is unfit and doesn’t recover then there will be somebody who will replace him. It is sad because he looked good in that match against Pakistan. He played a lovely cover drive,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Harbhajan Singh said that NCA should answer since the player recovered there. The former off-spinner also said that having an injury at this time will be crucial for the team since the World Cup is approaching.

“Injuries are part and parcel of the game. But getting injured that often is either bad luck or you are making a position for KL Rahul. I think getting injured at this point in time is going to hurt his position in the team as well and make things correct for KL Rahul. It is very worrying that players are getting injured again and again and it is mostly to do with the kind of training they do. So that is the question NCA needs to answer because that is where players go and rehabilitate and train themselves. And what KL Rahul brings to this table is stability in the batting line-up,” Harbhajan Singh said.

In the upcoming match, India will square off against Sri Lanka in the fourth Super Fours game of the Asia Cup 2023 on Tuesday (September 12th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
