Former Bangladesh player Athar Ali Khan spoke up on the excitement level of the high-voltage match in the ODI World Cup between India and Pakistan and said that everyone is excited to see Virat Kohli versus Naseem Shah in the front of a crowded stadium.
While speaking to RevSportz, Athar Ali Khan said that everyone is fascinated to watch the clash between India and Pakistan. The former player said that would be exciting to see Rohit Sharma versus Shaheen Afridi and Virat Kohli versus Naseem Shah.
Khan also said that it is tragic when politics mix up with the sport, this context came since India and Pakistan are currently having an ongoing political conflict, and added that these games make the sport more beautiful and that there is nothing bigger than this game.
“Ha ha ha! Everyone is. Not just me. Imagine Shaheen Afridi versus Rohit Sharma at the start of an innings. Virat Kohli versus Naseem Shah. Pakistan has a fantastic fast bowling line-up and in front of 100,000 fans, it will be a spectacle the whole world will be watching. It is sad that sports and politics get mixed up, but these matches are good for sport. These are games which make sport what it is. There is a massive build-up, fans travel from all over, the players know that if they perform in this one game, they achieve cult status. For the broadcaster, this is the one game to build and for the sport overall, there is nothing bigger,” Athar Ali Khan said.
And then the two Virat Kohli sixes: Athar Ali Khan on the last World T20 match between India and Pakistan
The former Bangladesh player said that no past records matter in this game. The 61-year-old recalled a small moment from the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan when the Men in Blue needed 28 runs from 8 balls and Virat Kohli smashed two sixes.
“It is an occasion you know what I mean. No past records matter in this game. If you see the last World T20 in Australia, what a game it was. India needed 28 runs of 8 balls, and it seemed impossible. And then the two Kohli sixes. Pure magic. And just when it seemed India had it did Hardik get out. The ebbs and flows of the game helped the whole tournament to come alive. That’s what should happen on October 14 as well,” the former Bangladesh player added.
The much-awaited match of the ICC ODI World 2023 between India and Pakistan will be played on October 14th at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
