Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt recently compared the Babar Azam-led team’s batting line-up with the Indian cricket team ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Salman Butt highlighted that Pakistani cricketers performed well in high-pressure situations compared to their Indian counterparts.

The neighboring nations are set to face each other in the upcoming Asia Cup. The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2. The two sides will meet two more times in the tournament if they qualify for the final.

Pakistan’s Core Group Is Bigger In Numbers Than India’s – Salman Butt

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt mentioned that, apart from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Indian players have often failed to perform in high-pressure encounters, including matches against Pakistan.

“India have two big batters in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While other young batters have played a decent amount of cricket, they haven’t quite performed in high-pressure games like India vs Pakistan. While Pakistan have Babar, Rizwan, Fakhar, Shadab etc. I feel Pakistan’s core group is bigger in numbers than India’s.”

“Pakistan are playing well and each player knows his role. We have three pacers who all bowl 90 mph, while India have just 1-2. Their batting is brittle if you pick the two big wickets (Rohit & Kohli). India will have pressure of expectations against Pakistan, so that’s also an added factor.”

Indian batters faced difficulty in scoring against Pakistan bowlers during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, Virat Kohli single-handedly guided the team to victory in a challenging situation.

No Certainty On Whether They Will Go Full Throttle – Salman Butt

The former Pakistan opener highlighted that Pakistan have a settled squad at the moment, while India is struggling with injuries.

“Pakistan have clarity about the 18-20 players that they have and know their way of winning games and whom to take forward. India, on the other hand,…there are some concerns in the fast bowling department with no certainty on whether they will go full throttle.”

Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna have returned to the national team after recovering from their respective injuries. Bumrah and Krishna played in the T20 series against Ireland, while Rahul and Iyer are yet to prove their match fitness.
