IND vs PAK: Irfan Pathan Points Out Pakistan’s Big Mistake In Asia Cup 2023 Clash

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan feels that Pakistan has made a big mistake by not picking an extra spinner in the IND vs PAL clash of Asia Cup 2023. According the the former left-armer, Pakistan will miss a spinner in the ongoing IND vs PAK super four clash of Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan named their playing XI a few days ahead of the match.

In the earlier game, Mohammad Nawaz was part of the playing XI. However, the Babar Azam-led side dropped him from the side and picked Faheem Ashraf in the super four clash. Nawaz is the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan in ODIs for Pakistan among spinners.

Pakistan Will Miss A Spinner In IND vs PAK Clash: Irfan Pathan

While speaking on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said that Pakistan needed a fourth fast bowler in the previous game. It was due to this reason that Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya managed to set up a partnership of 138 runs. He also added that in the IND vs PAK super clash, they will miss a spinner due to different conditions at R Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka.

“I feel they will miss a spinner here. The Kandy pitch was different. You needed a fourth fast bowler on the Kandy pitch and that is why Babar Azam missed a trick there and Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya had a partnership,” Irfan Pathan said.

The cricket-turned-commentator also added that Pakistan spinners are not in good form.

“Their spinners are not in form either. If you have seen Shadab Khan’s bowling as well for the last one to one-and-a-half years, he is not bowling at the same level. So there if you don’t even have another spinner at the other end, they will miss. The Indian fans will not complain.,” Irfan Pathan further added.

In Asia Cup 2023, Shadab Khan has picked 4 wickets in 3 games for Pakistan so far. However, he picked a 4-wicket in one game and remained wicketless in the rest two matches. Mohammad Nawaz has only played one game and picked 1 wicket. His economy stands at 6.80. Faheem Ashraf has picked 1 wicket in the only game he played against India.
